Alchemilla (Lady's mantle)


   


Alchemilla (Lady's Mantle) is a type of herbaceous perennial plants. There are about 300 species of Alchemilla. It can be found from cool temperate to subarctic regions of Europe and Asia. There are a few species found on the mountains of Africa, North America and South America as well.

The leaf of the Alchemilla is in the shape of a hand with rounded lobes. The leaves are covered in fine hairs. They are particularly attractive when they hold dew or rain drops. The Alchemilla produces sprays of small, yellow-green flowers appear in late spring.

Alchemilla is an easy to grow perennial groundcover with beatiful leaves which can thrive in sun or shade, in any type of well-drained soil. Propagation is by seed in spring, divide in spring or autumn. It is usually trouble free.

Alchemilla mollis is a popular type of Alchemilla for the garden. It is planted to fill gaps in the border, as groundcover, and is often used as underplanting for roses.
