Zebra plant (
Aphelandra squarrosa) is a species of evergreen plant in the family Acanthaceae, native to the Atlantic Forest vegetation in Brazil. It gets its name from the white stripes on the leaves. Zebra plant is grown for its striking foliage, and is suitable for growing indoor.
Zebra plant grows 60 cm -1.8 m tall, depending on pot size. It grows ideally in temperatures of between 16-21 degrees Celsius, and prefers lots of indirect light, and moist, well-drained soil. It will drop leaves if over- or under- watered. Water regularly but do not over-water. Zebra plant bears bright yellow blooms, and has a winter rest period.
Propagation is by stem cuttings in spring.
