Armeria (Lady's cushion)


   


Armeria (Lady's cushion, Thrift, Sea pink) is a species of flowering plant of the family Plumbaginaceae, native to the Mediterranean. The species can be found throughout much of the northern hemisphere, and mostly by the seaside or in the wild on cliffs and mountains. There are more than a hundred species of Armeria.

Armeria blooms from late spring to summer. It has erect stem with round flowerhead of either white, pink or red-purple. Cultivars are available in strong colors like white, dark red, salmon, crimson and pink-red.

Armeria like sun and well-drained soil. Propagation is by seed in spring or autumn, division in spring or basal cuttings in summer. Armeria is usually free from pests and diseases.
