Avena nuda (Hulless Oat, Naked Oat) is a species of grass with edible seeds, in the true grass family Poaceae. It can be found growing in central and eastern Europe, temperate region in Siberia and China, and western South America.
The seeds ripened and harvested in late summer. The hull is incompletely attached to the grain, easily yielding a naked seed upon threshing. When dried, they can be stored for several years. It has a floury texture and a mild, creamy flavor. It is used as a staple food crop in savory or sweet dishes. The seeds are commonly ground into flour and used as a cereal, even though it can be cooked whole. The seeds can also be sprouted and eaten raw or cooked in salads and stews.
