Beaucarnea is a genus of small tropical xerophytic trees in the family Ruscaceae, comprising four species. It is native to Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. Beaucarnea recurvata or ponytail palm, is the most commonly seen species. It is often grown as a house plant in temperate regions.

Beaucarnea, 6-10 m tall, has a flared base and 20-40 cm diameter trunk. The leaves are evergreen, strap-shaped, linear, 0.5-1.8 m long and 1.5-2 cm broad, leathery in texture with a finely serrated margin. Young plant is single-stemmed, branching only after flowering. The flowers, which come in large panicles of 75-110 cm long, can only produce on old trees. Each flower is tiny, 1.5 mm diameter, greenish-white with six-tepals.
