Bergenia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Saxifragaceae. This evergreen perennial plant is native to central Asia, from Afghanistan to China, and the Himalayan region. It has a common name called Elephant's Ears.
Bergenia cordifolia is the most widely grown Bergenia. It is famous for its pink flowers and heart-shaped, slightly puckered leaves.
Bergenia are excellent for edging and woodland gardens, a good ground cover. It can be planted in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Propagation is done by division in autumn or spring. Pests and diseases for this perennial are slugs and snails, vine weevils and leaf spot.
