Brown rice (Hulled rice)

Brown rice or hulled rice, is the seed of the rice plant that has been removed of its chaff (outer husks of grain), milled using a rice huller. It has a mild nutty flavor, is chewier and more nutritious than white rice.

Brown rice and white rice have similar amounts of calories, carbohydrates, and protein. Their differences lie in the processing and nutritional content. Brown rice helps to prevent the disease beriberi. Beriberi is a nervous system ailment caused by a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1) in the diet.

Roasted brown rice combined with Japanese green tea produced a drink called Genmaicha. Hyeonmi cha is a Korean tisane made from roasted brown rice.

Brown rice can remain in storage for months under normal conditions, but hermetic storage (airtight) and freezing can further extend its lifetime.
