Caltha is a genus of flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae, comprises of about ten species. It is native to the temperate regions in Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Commonly known as King Cup and Marsh Marigold.
Caltha is a herbaceous perennial plant. Grown mostly as a marginal in the shallow water at the edge of a natural pond. It has dark green, long-stalked leaves and bearing yellow flowers. They like sun and wet boggy ground. They can grow to about 15-80cm tall with glistening yellow flowers bloom in early spring. Their neat mound of foliage is useful in providing cover in shallow water for amphibians and water insects, whereas the yellow flowers attracting beneficial flies and beetles.
Propagation of Caltha can be done through ripe seed; divide in early spring or late summer. Check for mildew occasionally.
