Cascabel

Cascabel chili is one of the Mirasol cultivars of species Capsicum annuum. It is also known as Jingle Bell and Rattle chili, to describe the tendency of loose seeds rattling inside the dried cascabel when shaken.

Fresh cascabel, 2-3 cm in diameter, is also known as bola chili or chile bola (Spanish word for ball chili), due to its round shape, and comes in green or red color, with the color darkens when dried. Cascabel is moderately hot, with heat level 2,500-8,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Unit), and usually available in dried form.
