Bellis (Daisy) is a genus of 15 species of flowering plants of the family Asteraceae, native to the Mediterranean, Europe, and northern Africa. The genus includes Bellis perennis, the familiar common daisy.
Bellis species are mostly perennials, with simple erect stems and basal leaves, and grow 5-20 cm tall. Striking flower heads are produced one per stem.
Most daisies can be planted as edging, spring bedding or in containers. They are easy to grow in sun or in partial shade in well-drained soil.
Some cultivars are among the best like the 'Alba Plena' which has double white flowers; 'Prolifera' ( hen and chickens ) has double white flowers and hanging from the 'mother' bloom is a pink and tiny 'daughter' flowers and 'Dresden China' which has tiny, double pink flowers.
