Chupon (Greigia sphacelata)


   


Chupon (Greigia sphacelata) is a species of plant in the family Bromeliaceae, endemic to Chile. It is known locally as chupon.

Greigia sphacelata is an evegreen, slow growing plant, up to 2 m tall. It has long, narrow, arching leaves fringed with tiny sharp spines. It bears rose-colored flowers in the center of the plant, which is followed by sweet, pulpy edible fruits. The plant do not die after flowering, but continue to bloom every year from the same rosette.
