Indigofera is a genus of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae, comprising about 700 species but only a few species are widely grown. They can be found in tropical and subtropical regions in the world, with a few found in temperate zone in eastern Asia.
They are deciduous or evergreen shrubs or small trees of 5-6 m tall with pea-like flowers produced on racemes of 2-15 cm long.
Indigofera species are a food source for the larvae of some Lepidoptera species like Turnip Moth.
Plant Indigofera in full sun, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Propagation can be done through greenwood cuttings in late spring or semi-ripe cuttings in midsummer.
