It is known as kieffer lime, makrud lime, or limau purut and is a native to Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos and Thailand. Kaffir lime is a green lime with rough skin that grows on thorny bush with aromatic and distinctively hourglass-shaped leaves. The rind of the kaffir lime is used in Thai and Lao curry paste, adding an aromatic and astringent flavor.
