Kai lan (Brassica oleracea -Alboglabra Group) is a leafy vegetable with thick, flat, glossy dark bluish green leaves and thick stem plus small flower heads similar to those of broccoli. The whole plant can be eaten, and its flavor is very similar to that of broccoli with a slight bitter taste. It can be stir fried with garlic and ginger, boiled or steamed and served with oyster sauce, or added to soups and casseroles.

Kai lan is also known as Chinese broccoli, Kailan or Chinese Kale. It is distinguished by its waxy, bluish tinged leaves and white flowers. It is widely eaten in Chinese, Vietnamese, Burmese and Thai cuisines.
