Magnolia is a genus of flowering trees and shrubs in the family Magnoliaceae, comprising about 210 species. It is named after French botanist Pierre Magnol. Magnolia grandiflora is official state flowers of both Mississippi and Louisiana.

Magnolias are evergreen, deciduous trees and shrubs, all bearing beautiful, fragrant flowers. Plant Magnolia in sun or partial shade, in neutral and acidic soil. Scale insects, coral spot and honey fungus are the few pests and diseases known to attack Magnolia plant.
