Marionberry is a cross between the 'Chehalem' and 'Olallie' berries. It is the most common blackberry cultivars, accounted for over half of all blackberries produced in Oregon.
Marionberry is a vigorous growing trailing vine, producing several canes of about 6 m long. Large spines are borne on the vines, and the fruiting laterals are strong and long, producing many berries. The berry is glossy, larger, sweeter and juicier than the 'Evergreen' blackberry. The berries appear black on the plant but turn a deep, dark purple when frozen and thawed. Marionberry can be used as an ingredient in pies, ice cream, jellies, and other foods.
