Narcissus (Daffodil) Gardening

     About Tim & Esther

Narcissus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Amaryllidaceae, comprising about 50 or more species and thousands of cultivars. It is commonly known as Daffodil. Narcissus is native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia.

Daffodils are one of the most familiar and popular spring flowers. They are easy to grow and can tolerate a range of planting conditions. They can be naturalized in grass, grow on a rock garden, plant in clumps in beds and borders, or as a cherry subject for containers. Colors of the flowers can be ranged in all shades and tones of yellow, white, orange, pink, red and green.

Plant Daffodil in sun or partial shade, in moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Propagation is by ripe seed, offsets in summer or early autumn. Pests and diseases are Narcissus bulb fly, eelworms and fungal infection.
