It is normally found growing under trees and is usually concealed under fallen leaves and duff on the forest floor, and forms a symbiotic relationship with the roots of a few species of trees. In Japan, it is commonly associated with Japanese Red Pine, and prized by Japanese for its distinct spicy-aromatic odor. |
