Asian watermeal (Wolffia globosa)

Asian watermeal (Wolffia globosa) is a species of aquatic flowering plant in the family Aracea, native to Asia. It is the smallest flowering plant in the world.

Asian watermeal is edible and grows in mats on the surface of calm water bodies such as quiet streams and ponds, and often mixed with other aquatic plants. It is 0.4-0.9 mm long, with the plant body smaller and more cylindrical than W. arrhiza. It has no roots, leaves nor stems, and can easily float on the surface of the water. The green thallus of the plant is transparent, and is less than 1 mm wide.

Propagation is by vegetative reproduction.
