Cacti are plants with thickened, fleshy bodies that can store water, thus enabling them to grow in very dry places. We can say that almost all cacti are succulents. The branches of the cacti are called areoles. These take the place of branches.
Cacti can be found in various dry places, from the tropics to very high mountains, on steppes, semi-deserts and deserts. The hot weather and low rainfall force these plants to collect and store water to survive long periods of drought.
